According to a representative, he died peacefully at home this morning after a brief illness, surrounded by family. Swift’s portrayal of Richard, opposite Dame Patricia Routledge’s Hyacinth Bucket, brought him lasting fame between 1990 and 1995. In the series, he played the patient, often exasperated husband of Hyacinth, who was obsessed with climbing the social ladder.
