Kara Killmer’s Chicago Fire Farewell Was Bittersweet and Beautiful

“Sylvie Brett Got Her Happy Ending—So Did Kara.”

When Kara Killmer said goodbye to Chicago Fire in Season 12, fans were hit with a mix of joy and heartbreak. Her character, paramedic Sylvie Brett, married longtime love Matt Casey, delivering one of the show’s most emotional exits. In real life, Kara’s own love story is just as fairytale-worthy—she met her husband, actor Andrew Cheney, on a movie set.

Off-screen, Kara is known for her warmth and down-to-earth charm. Cast members call her “the sunshine of the set,” and her absence is deeply felt by both fans and co-stars. Even though she’s moved on, many believe we haven’t seen the last of Sylvie Brett—or Kara Killmer.

“I’ll always carry Brett with me,” she said in a heartfelt goodbye. Fans are still hoping for a future cameo. Never say never.
