In a show known for pushing boundaries, Casualty has done it again with an unforgettable stunt that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats. In the latest episode, “Supply and Demand,” paramedic Iain Dean faces one of his most dangerous challenges yet—scaling a massive crane to save a stranded patient. But what makes this stunt even more incredible is that it was all filmed for real, and Michael Stevenson, who plays Iain, shared his experience with Inside Soap.
“Every time I think they’ve taken Iain to the edge, the producers always ask, ‘What can we do next?’” Michael recalled. When he first heard about this crane stunt, his reaction was disbelief. “I was like ‘don’t be daft!’ But then, when I saw the script in development, I was like, ‘they’re actually sending me up a crane?’”
And that’s exactly what happened. The scene, shot from a dizzying height of 30 metres, is not just visually striking—it’s a true test of Michael’s acting skills. However, the height and danger weren’t the only challenges on set. The real difficulty came from the freezing temperatures.
“It was amazing—but it was so cold!” Michael laughed. “We shot for real, so it was on a 30-metre crane. I did a day’s training while it was still warm, but we filmed at night, around 2-3am. And let me tell you, standing 30 metres in the air, overlooking Newport, in that kind of cold? It was intense.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Michael revealed that his fellow castmates weren’t exactly lining up to take part in the stunt. “Charles [Venn] and Milo [Clarke] often joke about how I get all the exciting stuff,” Michael said. “But when this episode came out, they both texted me separately and said, ‘No way, you can have that one!’”
The crane scene isn’t just a thrilling action sequence—it’s a pivotal moment for Iain, as he faces one of the most difficult decisions of his career. As always with Casualty, the stakes are high, the tension palpable, and the consequences of Iain’s daring act will play out in surprising ways.

This stunt is the kind of thing only Casualty could pull off, and it’s sure to leave fans eagerly anticipating what comes next for Iain Dean.
