Adele took time out to visit a seriously ill fan in Belfast on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hello singer, who opened her world tour in the city on Monday,

went to see 12-year-old Rebecca Gibney after being made aware of a social media campaign set up by Rebecca’s mum Tracy.

Rebecca has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is blind. In 2015 she was given just six months to live, but has defied the odds and continues to listen to Adele’s music to make her smile and even sing along.

The youngster’s mum has campaigned on Facebook for months to encourage Adele to visit Rebecca, and while she had received letters from Adele’s manager, she didn’t know anything about a visit until Tuesday morning when she received an exciting phone call.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Tracy explained: “I was sitting in the hairdresser today and the manager called and said, ‘Tracy it’s Adele’s manager, I am getting back to you because Adele has seen your Rebecca’s pictures and she was very emotional and she wants to come and meet your daughter.’”

She added: “It is unbelievable her dream has come true. Adele was just so nice.”

Rebecca is too ill to see Adele perform, but as a special gift to the family, the 27-year-old offered tickets for her concert at Belfast’s SSE Arena – another gesture which meant a lot to Tracy and her family.

“I am in shock, I got my baby’s dream to come true,” Tracy said. “She was so nice – she could not have been nicer. Adele was sat beside her and she was talking to me and my other kid, she was so nice for wee Rebecca. I cannot put it into words what it means.”
