Adele Announces Music Break to ‘Do Other Creative Things’

Adele has announced that she plans to take a significant break from the music industry after the conclusion of her “Weekends With Adele” residency in Las Vegas, which will wrap up later this fall. The singer shared this news in a recent interview with German broadcaster ZDF, revealing that she has no plans to release a new album anytime soon. This declaration echoes comments she made earlier during a concert in January, where she mentioned her desire for a lengthy hiatus. Adele expressed that she aims to take a “big break” from music, with the hope of exploring other creative avenues for a while.

Adele’s residency in Las Vegas began in November 2022, and she plans to conclude it with a final performance on November 23. Before that, she will perform a special series of shows in Munich in August, with performances scheduled for the 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 23rd, and 24th. The shows in Munich will be held in a unique, open-air venue designed exclusively for these performances, with a capacity of 80,000 people per night, combining both seated and standing areas. These performances mark her return to mainland Europe after a long absence, her last tour there having been in 2016.

Adele explained her decision to perform in Munich by saying that she was too curious not to explore the idea of a custom-built pop-up stadium, one designed specifically for her show. She described the venue as being in the heart of Europe, in Munich, which she found both “random and fabulous.” This will be a major highlight of her current touring schedule, offering her fans a unique live experience.

Earlier this year, Adele had already expressed her reluctance to rush into creating new music, telling a concert audience that she doesn’t foresee herself working on a new album “for quite some time.” She had also mentioned her concerns about the physical demands of her Las Vegas residency, citing the long hours of live performances and the strain on her voice. Despite the challenges, she emphasized that she currently has no new material to share, stating that she hadn’t even begun to think about writing new music. Her focus, for now, is on enjoying her current work and taking time for herself.

With no immediate plans for new music, Adele seems committed to taking a break from her musical career, possibly to recharge and pursue other forms of creativity, before returning to the music scene in the future. This break is a reflection of her desire to step back and explore new opportunities beyond the demands of producing and performing music.
