Casualty star Charles Venn has insisted that “the show must go on”, following a major change for his character, paramedic Jacob Masters.
Venn noted that since Iain Dean and Teddy Gowan accepted a secondment with HART (Hazardous Area Response Team), Jacob has found himself working more closely with Jan and Indie.
“It’s weird. No matter what, the show must go on,” Venn explained, adding: “They’re now focused on that department.”
“Indie, played by Naomi [Wakszlak], she’s a wonderful actress,” he continued. “Since she came on board, she hit the ground running. Jacob almost views her like a little sister. It’s that kind of fatherly role whenever she feels she may need. He’s there for that.
“Naomi and I have really embraced that. Whenever we see moments like that, we try to place weight on those moments. Once again, it goes back to camaraderie and a family-esque environment, work-wise.”
Teddy – played by Milo Clarke – officially quit the team after the stress of the job appeared to trigger complications with his heart condition.
In a 2022 episode, Teddy was told that he had an ASD (Atrial Septal Defect, a hole in the heart between the upper chambers) and subsequently underwent heart surgery.
At the time, his mother Gaynor had encouraged him to give up his job, but Teddy ultimately decided to stay with Jan at Holby City Hospital. Up until his secondment, he had appeared to be managing his symptoms.
Last month, Sarah Seggari, who plays Rida Amaan, posted a picture on social media of some of the cast, including Venn and Clarke, sharing a meal together at a restaurant
