Brace Yourself: One of These Chicago Fire Exit Theories Might Break You

Let’s give it to you straight – there’s no new episode of Chicago Fire Season 13 tonight. Why? Well, the answer has a little less clarity.

Between Chicago Med, Chicago PD, and Chicago Fire, NBC has a pretty full Wednesday night roster. Collectively, they form the One Chicago trilogy… and if you’re lucky, sometimes they cross over.

Just like 9-1-1 Season 8, Chicago Fire follows Firehouse 51, whose squad members face issues on a personal and professional level. When emergencies arise, however, it all gets left at the door.

Sadly, that’s not the case this week. There’s no new episode of Chicago Fire this week, and that’s because Season 13 Episode 20 has a frustrating delay.

Why is Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 20 delayed?

Officially, all One Chicago shows – that’s Chicago Med, PD, and Fire – are on a week’s hiatus. The reason for this is unknown, but it does mean Season 13 Episode 20, titled ‘Cut Me Open,’ now won’t be broadcast until May 7, 2025, at 9/8c on NBC.

We’ve seen a weekly hiatus across the board by different broadcasters of late, from Beyond the Gates on CBS to 9-1-1 Season 8 on ABC. Sometimes, there are obvious reasons – The Rookie Season 7 was moved last week because of a new interview with President Donald Trump – and other times, there’s no reason at all.

Annoyingly, this is one of those times. The “brief hiatus” only lasts a week, though, means we’re back on track soon. We’ve still got two episodes of Season 13 left to go after Episode 20 has aired, so there will be plenty more to binge.

What will happen in Season 13 Episode 20?

As per the episode’s synopsis, “With the crew stretched thin, a performance efficiency expert evaluates Firehouse 51; Kidd and Severide bond with the mother of the baby they hope to adopt.”

As you can see from the above trailer, a woman is set to go into labor, using an emergency C-section from a team that clearly feels out of their depth.

Off the back of the last episode, Novak had been looking for a roommate, with Violet on a mission to figure out who the mysterious medic was treating patients. The latter isn’t likely to be a storyline that continues next week, but Novak’s personal life is surely not done yet.
